to replenish the skin with moisture and nutrients. Using a lotion that

Moisturize
Moisture is critical to good skin health because
it helps maintain a good skin barrier and creates a flexible, pliable
skin that is soft to touch. Moist skin will tan better and more evenly
than dry skin. Dry skin reflects UV light, not allowing it to tan underneath.
Dry skin also exfoliates faster, causing the tan to fade much quicker.

to retain moisture in its surface.
Nutrition
Lotions loaded with vitamins are essential to the
skin’s appearance and its ability to tan. These vitamins replenish

California Tan Products
We carry California Tan, which is the only brand
to offer a three-step solution to your skin’s needs. Step I
(Accelerators), Step II (Maximizers) and Step III (Extenders). Below
you will a little more about each step.
Step I Products (Accelerators)
Step One products are accelerators, which are specifically
designed to build a rich, golden brown base tan in the shortest amount
of time. Step I is the most advanced product in our line for people
who do not have a base tan or are building one.
Step I products are scientifically-formulated to
accelerate the development of your golden brown base with higher concentrations
of specific vitamins and nutrients which fuel the cells that produce
pigment.
Application should be directly before each session.
These products are available with bronzers or cooling which you can
learn about below. Remember, do not move to Step II until you have
hit your tanning plateau and if you have some left over save it and
alternate your lotions and revert back to a more nutritious lotion
every 5-6 tans to get better results.
Step II Products (Maximizers)
Step II products are called Maximizers. Once you
have reached your tanning plateau and you feel you can’t get
any darker that is your base tan fully developed. To get darker you
need a product specifically designed to perform differently than when
you are building base tan. Maximizers are scientifically formulated
to condition the skin to break through the tanning plateau for deeper,
darker results.
Application should be directly before each session.
These products are available with bronzers, hot action, cooling, shimmer
and a mix if desired. You can learn more about these additions below.
Remember Step II doesn’t mean more advanced, it is designed
for a certain phase of your tan.
Step III Products (Extenders)
Extenders are designed for tanning and help to
preserve, protect and extend the life of your tan. All tanners at
all steps of the tanning process should also be using a Step III product.
Step III products are scientifically formulated
with intense hydrating ingredients to preserve, protect and extend
the life of your tan. These lotions enhance tanning color, prevent
peeling, and replenish moisture which will maintain tanning results
and protect your investment of time and money you have put into building
a tan.
You should use these products daily and should
be applied after bathing and after UV exposure to lock in tanning
color.
Specialty products
Your skin varies and is not the same from part to
part. Legs are normally harder to tan than your stomach for example.
Your face is more delicate skin and needs different products than your
legs. Specialty products will help in those areas.
For example, we carry a special leg lotion that inhibits
hair growth and has great bronzer in it. This will slow the shaving
process and add great color to a hard to tan area of the body. Couple
this with our leg tanner and you won’t believe the results.
Facial tanning crèmes revitalizes, firms and
tightens facial skin. Reduces fine lines and wrinkles and facilitates
a more uniform pigmentation on the face.

What are bronzers?
Bronzers are ideal for clients just starting out
and who want to jump-start their tan. They are also for advanced tanners
who want that added self tanner color, which compliments and enhances
their already developed natural tan.
Bronzers supplement a tan with light self-tanner
(DHA) that delivers color in 2 to 4 hours while a natural tan develops.
They help deliver darker, more immediate tanning results.
Products with bronzers should be applied to the skin
using a circular motion prior to tanning. Hands should be washed or
wiped immediately after application. For best results, a tanner should
wait to bathe for 2 to 4 hours after applying a bronzer.
Make sure to wipe your hands and feet well with the
provided baby wipes after applying, especially between fingers and toes
and around jewelry. This will prevent any unwanted DHA staining in areas
where you can get build up.
What are Hot Action (Tingle, Tingle Factor
or Heat) products?
Hot action products are for advanced tanners who
like to experience a warming sensation during tanning and see a reddening
effect on their skin after tanning. These products are not recommended
for sensitive skin. Hot action products are available in a range of
intensity and like tanning you should work your way up in intensity.
Products with Hot Action stimulate and increase microcirculation
of the skin for greater, more intense tanning results. If you have never
tried or are moving up in intensity a spot test is always recommended.
It causes a temporary skin response. The duration of the effect depends
on the intensity of the Hot Action ingredients and the sensitivity of
each individual’s skin. Usually the Hot Action response initiates
fairly quickly once the product is applied and will last anywhere from
20 minutes to a few hours.
Make sure to wipe your hands and feet well with the
provided baby wipes after applying, especially between fingers and toes
and around jewelry. Try not to touch eyes or any other sensitive areas
of the body. The effects are transferable and refrain from hugging someone
while you have that on your skin, they will get a burning sensation.
What are Cooling products?
Cooling is for clients who like to feel a cooling
sensation on the skin during and immediately after tanning. They contain
special skin cooling ingredients that counteract the heat of a tanning
bed by drawing warmth away from the skin.
Cooling products should be applied to the skin immediately
prior to tanning. Again, make sure to wipe your hands and feet well
with the provided baby wipes after applying, especially between fingers
and toes and around jewelry. Try not to touch eyes or any other sensitive
areas of the body. The effects are transferable.
